Fire Department

At Gardendale Fire, Medical, and Rescue, our experienced team is dedicated to providing the highest level of protection, service, and quality of life to the citizens and visitors of Gardendale.

We are a full-time career department with 34 full-time fire medics, led by Fire Chief Joe Thomas. The department serves approximately 50 square miles and responds to over 200 alarms each month, with about 70 percent of these calls being medical-related.

Our team is highly trained and certified in a variety of specialized services, including:

  • Paramedic care
  • High-angle and rope rescue
  • Confined space and trench rescue
  • Fire prevention
  • Hazardous materials management

Fire Station #1

Fire Station One

Fire Station #1 at 1811 Decatur Highway is Gardendale’s main fire station and department headquarters, centrally located to serve the entire community. This flagship station houses the department’s leadership offices and a full range of firefighting apparatus and advanced life-support equipment, staffed by highly trained firefighters and paramedics. Its strategic location along a major thoroughfare allows crews to rapidly reach the city's core and surrounding neighborhoods in emergencies. Station #1 also serves as the operational hub for Gardendale, coordinating citywide emergency response and underpinning the department’s commitment to protecting life and property.

Fire Station #2

Fire Station Two

Fire Station #2 at 1648 Fieldstown Road extends Gardendale’s emergency coverage to the west side of the city. Opened in 2014, this station is staffed by an experienced crew of firefighter-paramedics and is equipped to handle both fire suppression and emergency medical calls. Station #2’s presence in the western community ensures faster response times for nearby neighborhoods and businesses, strengthening safety across the growing area of Gardendale. Its west-side placement demonstrates Gardendale’s proactive approach to protecting all parts of the community and providing timely emergency services.

Fire Station 3

Fire Station #3 at 531 Tarrant Road is Gardendale’s newest fire station, strategically located to serve the city’s eastern neighborhoods. Completed in 2025, this modern facility is outfitted with the latest firefighting and rescue equipment and staffed by a dedicated team ready to respond. Its placement ensures improved response times and comprehensive emergency coverage for areas that were previously beyond a five-mile service radius. Station #3 exemplifies the city’s continued growth and commitment to public safety, bringing peace of mind to residents on Gardendale’s east side.
